YM Talents Local Summer Internship Programme 2023

 

 

Jointly organised by the University & College YMCA Department and different service units of Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong since 2020, the YM Talents Local Summer Internship Programme aims to provide a platform for university students to unleash their potential in various aspects, explore their possibilities and understand the operation of NGOs in Hong Kong. 

 

By joining this programme, interns can:  

  • enrich their working experiences in NGOs by working with the staff of YMCA centres/campsites and know more about the social welfare sector in Hong Kong; 

  • gain a deeper understanding of different communities and contribute to society; and 

  • increase their competitiveness in the workplace, strengthen their soft skills and develop a positive working attitude. 

 

Programme Details 

Orientation & Training Session:   28 April 2023 (on Friday afternoon)  
Internship Period:  4 July 2023 – 28 August 2023, 8 weeks in total.   
(Interns may need to work in the evenings and during weekends, depending on the work arrangement and nature of the programmes)  
Working Hours: 44 hours per week (Mon-Sun, on shift)   
Internship Location: 

Interns will be allocated to work in one of the following service units of Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong:   

Job Duties: 

Children & Youth Services*   

  • To assist in preparing, executing and leading programmes, e.g. outdoor events, interest groups and summer care services 

  • To assist in programme recruitment and promotion   

  • To assist in emergency management at the campsite 

  • To support the daily routines of service units, including administrative work, reception work etc., and other duties assigned by on-site supervisors  

  • Interns may need to work at night and on weekends, or stay overnight in the campsite, depending on the arrangement of activities 

*Some of programmes will be conducted in both English and Cantonese.    

Camp Services# 

  • To assist in leading outdoor activities, camp events, interest groups etc. 

  • To assist in programme recruitment and promotion 

  • To support the daily routines of service units, including administrative and reception work 

  • To assist in maintaining and repairing campsite infrastructure and equipment and other duties assigned by on-site supervisors   

  • Interns may need to stay overnight at the campsite and work on weekends, depending on the arrangement of activities  

#Y’s Men - YMCA Wong Yi Chau Youth Camp: Water sports and activities are involved.

Salary:  ~HKD 16,000  

 

Medium 
Local students: Mainly Cantonese. You may also need to lead programmes in English. 

Non-local student: Mainly English.  

 

Requirements  

  • Flexible and adaptive to different work and challenges   

  • Proactive, responsible and independent in work 

  • Physical ability to hold outdoor activities 

  • A good and supportive team player  

  • Interested in the social welfare sector, camp services and children’s services  

  • Experiences in outdoor camp activities, programme leading, community services or children’s services will be an advantage

  1. Applicants must be local or non-local full-time undergraduates; incoming exchange students are not eligible.
