If so, join us this summer as we unveil the wonders of South Africa in the Joint-U South Africa Cultural & Service Tour 2024! Throughout this journey, you'll have the chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant and diverse African culture, while also making a tangible positive impact on local communities in need. 

Not only you will have chance to have cultural exchanges with youths in South Africa, but you can also work together to serve local people in need and strengthen cultural exchanges between Chinese and South African youths. In addition, this tour will allow you to get to know the Belt and Road Initiative development in South Africa.

About the Programme 

Programme Period: Mid June - October 2024 (Tentative dates for the Tour: July 22 – August 6)

Destinations: South Africa (Cape Town, Durban & Johannesburg)

Eligibility: Students/alumni aged 18-29 (permanent HKSAR residents with the HKID card) with valid University & College YMCA membership. (Membership application is open all-year-round. CLICK HERE for membership application.)  

Language: Cantonese (for pre-trip and post-trip activities) and English (programmes in South Africa)

 Programme Fee: $16,000# + $1,000* refundable deposit 
(Programme fee includes flight tickets, meals, accommodation, insurance, transportation and programme activities..etc with YMCA subsidy.)

Participant who receives the "YMCA Global Citizenship Award Scheme" Gold Award will be given $1,000 subsidy. 

*Deposit is refundable upon completion of the programme. See "Programme Remarks" for more details.

 

Important Remarks:  
  • Participants MUST attend all preparation meetings before departure. The University & College YMCA Department reserves the right to terminate the participation of any individual in the Programme, and participants may be liable for any costs incurred from the programme, if they fail to attend all preparation meetings without pre-approval. An exemption may apply to participants who can provide written proofs (such as unavoidable academic reasons/sick leave) in case they cannot attend any session of the programme. 

  • Deposit is fully refundable upon full attendance of all pre-trip meetings, overseas trip, post-trip meetings & activities and completion of requirements of "YM Global Citizenship Award Scheme" Gold Award, with satisfactory performance throughout the programme. 

  • Participants who are awarded with "YM Global Citizenship Award Scheme" Gold Award can obtain $1,000 subsidy.

  • Participants who are receiving (1) Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA); or (2) A full grant of tuition fees under one of the means-tested schemes by the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency may be offered $13,000 subsidy by the “Pilot Scheme on Subsidy to Grassroots Youth for Participating in Exchange Activities Outside Hong Kong”, meaning the programme fee to be paid by the aforementioned eligible and successful applicants of the programme is $3,000.   • This Programme is funded by "Funding Scheme for International Youth Exchange 2024-25" of Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and Youth Development Commission. 

  • The content of this publicity/ publication/ exhibition represents the opinion of the Organisers only. 

  • Applicants shall not be joining other projects under the Funding Scheme for International Youth Exchange 2024-25. The Organiser and government reserve the rights to recover the subsidies.  

  • The University & College YMCA Department of Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong reserves the right of final decision for any disputes.
